CAIRO: Three boys were injured Monday Rafah in North Sinai when a shell hit an area of peach trees where they were playing and three takfiri members were killed in the same city in a security campaign, Youm7 reported.

One of the boys, 3, has already been released from the hospital while his brother, 13, is still being treated because a piece of shrapnel penetrated his chest. Their friend, 13, is also still at the hospital.

Another shell explosion killed a young girl last week in a North Sinai village and a projectile destroyed a house in another village two weeks ago that killed two children and injured others. No one claimed responsibility for these incidents.

Three people were injured Friday when an explosive device detonated south of Sheikh Zuwayed city in North Sinai. Preliminary information indicated that the device was planted to detonate when security forces crossed the designated area but probably exploded before the specified time, a security source told Youm7.

North Sinai Security Directorate announced three takfiris were killed and five others were arrested during a security campaign in Rafah and Sheikh Zuwayed on Monday.

The forces raided “terrorist hotbeds” in those areas and exchanged fire with militants, who fled after the troops inflicted casualties among their ranks.

North Sinai witnessed frequent attacks by militants against military and police targets but also affecting civilians since then-Defense of Minister Abdel Fatah al-Sisi ousted Islamist President Mohamed Morsi in July 2013.

The military also launched several security campaigns, killed and arrested dozens of “jihadists and takfiris.”
